Blissfully Single Bean’s Summer Music Playlist
The resplendence of a Georgia summer belongs on a canvas.
Even as I write this post now, the impending rain storm that’s playing a game of cat and mouse with me is reminiscent of Monet’s Garden, come to life. I love when it rains here in Georgia, the colors in the sky and the strong sound of thunder really is a sight to behold; rain is a whole experience down here.
Just take a look at this photo I took right before it rained, beautiful, right?
Summer brings with it powerful, gorgeous rain storms. The season also gives us full access to all the fun amenities that we as a family get to experience. One of my favorite is undeniably, the access to Lake Lanier.
I cannot begin to express the love I’ve grown for boating.
Georgia Boating Season
Georgia boating season 2022 and your girl Beans is here to enjoy it all!
My favorite spot for boating rentals is Harbor Landing Boat rentals. The rentals are affordable and you can rent in four or eight hour increments. I haven’t done the eight hour rental yet, but maybe I’ll treat myself and my boys for Labor Day this year.
Again, my favorite part of the summertime weather is being able to get on a boat and explore the different islands of Lake Lanier. Recently, I’m afforded the opportunity to take my son’s best friend along for a pontoon ride on the lake; it was absolutely surreal.
It’s me connecting with nature, literally looking at God; that’s really IT for me!
My last boating trip, I actually do something I thought I’d never- I jumped off the pontoon once docked and swam to the shore. I remind my children, that once again, there’s no way we’d be able to live this close to a lake; consequently, moving my family to Georgia is the best thing I could’ve ever done for us.
There’s something spiritually elevated about being on the water. I feel like I’m on another wave length. Accordingly, it’s such a calming force for me and with such peace, I need the artistry of music to further heighten the experience. This is where Blissfully Single Bean’s summer music playlist comes in; it takes me to another world – right there, on the water.
The Summer Music I Play … Right There on The Water
The perfect time for music for Beans, is right there on that boat. The feeling you get while the boat rocks gently over waves is quite frankly, indescribable.
In fact, before even leaving the doc; the first thing I do is que up my Apple Playlist. Ok, I’m not plugging Apple over Spotify; I feel both music streaming services are amazing.
However, being an iPhone owner, it’s easier to subscribe to Apple music and be connected to tons of musical content. As much as I love my tunes, $10 a month is a pittance to pay. For real, I don’t feel the bill. This is saying a lot because I’m blissfully on one income, trust me when I say I feel MOST bills.
In the end, I feel as if I receive a lot more than the cost of subscription.
Need a few tips on putting together that perfect playlist? Well now, here we go!
Have a Theme or a Mood – When you play music, you’re trying to capture a particular feeling. This is top on my list of reasons why I love music so much; it’s an emotion enhancer. Whatever you are doing in the moment, music simply amplifies the experience. Since I’m on the water, I gravitate towards neo-soul, earthier artists like H.E.R, Solange and Jhene Aiko. But then, I do like to shake things up with dance hall artists like Kranium as well.
Aim for anywhere between 30-50 songs – A longer playlist is more engaging and allows time for me to really connect and be mentally ascended to a place of relaxation. Plus, career-wise, I’m a planner; the logistics of changing a playlist every half an hour is annoying. This 30-50 song number makes it so that I’m spending a few hours enjoying music.
A playlist that’s too long wont allow the chance for you to finish listening.
Variety is Crucial – Listen, Jazmine Sullivan has got to be one of my favorite R&B Soul ladies right now, but after playing her album for a week straight, it can get old. One good playlist incorporates many different artists to keep things fresh and exciting. Bean’s boating playlist includes:
- Yuna
- Khalid
- Sabrina Claudio
- Solange
- Christina Aguilera
- Jahah
- H.E.R
- Kranium
- Moniece Slaughter … and MORE!
Structure Your Playlist – You want to make sure there’s a good balance of different artists, that you’re managing downbeat and up-tempo tracks, and that songs blend into each another seamlessly. Your music playlist needs to be structured so that it flows in a way that makes sense to any listener.
Add New Music – Listening to the same playlist can get a bit “stale” after a while. Be on the lookout for new artists and songs to keep your music playlist both engaging and relevant.
Blissfully Single Bean’s Playlist
This playlist gives me calm on the waters. Reminds me why I made the big change of moving from New York to Georgia. The music that I listen to and the amazing views of both sky and waters remind me of what God is; God is the driving force of it all.
If you have access to, do yourself a favor, rent or charter a boat and put together an amazing playlist to enjoy the water. Trust me when I tell you, you won’t be disappointed. In the meantime, click my photo below and take a listen. Maybe you can give me an idea of an artist or two I can add?
