Ready to Love – The Ex Factor

This Ready to Love episode tasked the women with having their current love interests meet with their ex’s. I’m just going to go ahead and say it: this exercise is STUPID!

The reason why it’s so dumb is because it doesn’t mirror the real world of dating. If you’re engaged in the dating world, you’d rarely circle back to an ex-partner to get approval or feedback. Just doesn’t make any sense. Let me tell you – if that were the case, I’d never date. My ex / children’s dad would torpedo any potential suitor of mine.

In addition, something strikes me as off and unfair. The men had the women meet their friends. The women had the men meet their ex’s? Doesn’t seem like a fair balance to me – seems as if the women’s assignment is a lot more scrutinizing than the men’s. Listen, I’m just saying.

Liz and David

The most interesting date with an ex was Liz and David for me. This is simply because, this date is a clear example of potential not synching up with reality. On paper – Liz and David with their religious backgrounds seems to make them an ideal couple. I mean, come on, first episode, Liz and David are singing spiritual hymns at the singles mix. But, it isn’t until: “The Meet the Ex” scene that the viewer sees the red flags. There’s something broken in David. This break lends itself to David’s control and trust issues. It’s evident: “Liz. You in danger girl.”

Alexis and Ron

So Alexis and Ron’s “date” to meet Alexis’ ex was quite the eye opener. The conversation between Ron and Alexis’ ex displayed the imbalance when it comes to the way Alexis & Ron understand and interpret spirituality. Clearly, Ron has experienced issues that has turned him away from the church. Prayer isn’t essential. It’s clear that in this stage of life, Ron isn’t “super religious.” This gives Alexis, who is the ex-wife of a preacher pause. It’s clear these two are “unequally yoked” and Alexis has a serious decision that she needs to make.
